Step into Harriet Tubman’s world this March

Imagine standing in a dark marsh at night.
The wind moves through the reeds. Somewhere in the distance, an owl calls.
This is the landscape that shaped Harriet Tubman — and March is the perfect time to experience it. March is Harriet Tubman Month in Dorchester County, Maryland. In 2026, there’s even more reason to visit:

March 7 – Harriet Tubman Day at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park
March 14 – Harriet Tubman Awards Banquet
March 28 – Soft reopening of the newly transformed Harriet Tubman Museum & Educational Center in Cambridge. The museum has been reimagined as an immersive experience — murals, atmospheric lighting, soundscapes, and storytelling that place you inside Tubman’s world.

Walk the marshes she knew.
Explore the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway.
Download the free audio guide and turn your road trip into something unforgettable. Some stories are best understood where they began — in the landscape that shaped them.

MD250 events celebrate our history

You may have heard that 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation. In Dorchester County, we're embracing history and we're part of the MD250 commemoration. We see it as an opportunity to introduce more people to our history. We've even added a new section on our website all about the occasion. We will be promoting 250th themed events, programming and celebrations all year long throughout our county and encourage you to check back often to see newly planned events. See the web page.

MD250: Celebrating our history

Maryland-Liberia sister relationship launched in Cambridge

Locals, visitors, and civic officials from around the state gathered at Waugh Chapel in Cambridge on Feb. 28 to launch a new sister relationship between Maryland (with an emphasis on Dorchester County and Cambridge) and the African nation of Liberia. Why Liberia? There's a powerful connection: Stephen Allen Benson, a Cambridge native, became Liberia's second president. The launch, an official MD250 event, marked a new chapter in cultural diplomacy, shared heritage, and global bridge-building.
Hurlock welcomes new trolley

Adding to its transportation history with railroading, the Town of Hurlock now owns a trolley! Paid for by donations from local businesses and citizens, the trolley will be on display at Hurlock’s historic train station. The town expects to use the trolley as a showpiece at parades and special events. See the full story from WBOC-TV.
